The Kennards family is well-known for their business ingenuity and creativity, thanks to Walter Kennard's establishment of the highly esteemed Kennards Hire in 1947. Since then, the family has continued to build on his legacy and expand in various ways. Neville and Andrew, Walter's two sons, took Kennards Hire to new heights beyond his imagination.

In 1973, Neville and his son Sam pioneered Australia's first Self Storage Centre within the Kennards Hire branch in Moorebank. Kennards Self Storage Company is now independently owned by Neville and Sam. It is worth noting that Kennards Hire no longer has any commercial ties to Kennards Self Storage.

Kennards Self Storage takes great pride in being one of the largest self-storage operators in Australasia. The company has led the way in many aspects of the industry, built on a foundation of quality, value, convenience, and innovation. The entire KSS team is dedicated to providing customers with an exceptional storage experience.

In 2004, KSS partnered with Valad Property Group to acquire 24 storage centres trading under the name of Millers Self Storage. This acquisition resulted in the company's growth to 56 locations, almost doubling its size.

In June 2008, Kennards purchased Valad's interest in the joint venture that owned 38 properties.

Today, Kennards Self Storage has expanded to over 94 locations across Australia and New Zealand, providing top-notch storage solutions to customers.
